SWEN is a small-batch luxury knitwear brand rooted in British wool and British making. Born from a desire to work with local fibre, we create considered knitwear with an emphasis on quality, form and longevity.
The brand takes its name from the letters on a weathervane, a quiet nod to the rhythms of the land and wool’s agricultural origins. Informed by Britain’s rural heritage and inspired by modern art and design, SWEN brings together craft and culture through an interest in form, proportion and simplicity.
Our knitwear is intentionally heavyweight, using generous quantities of yarn to achieve a distinctive weight and density. Each sweater uses the equivalent of one sheep’s annual fleece yield. One sheep, one sweater. The result is a substantial, sculptural knit that recalls the presence of a vintage fisherman’s sweater.
We work exclusively with British wool and skilled British knitters, supporting the farmers and makers behind each garment. Pieces are produced in small, considered batches, keeping production deliberate and quantities limited.
At its core, SWEN is an exploration of what it means to create with integrity: a commitment to natural materials, thoughtful design and considered making.
Why British Wool?
We choose British wool for its resilience, warmth and texture, and to support a local fibre that remains undervalued. Its natural character suits the substantial knitwear we want to make: pieces to be worn often and kept for years.
Britain is home to more native sheep breeds than anywhere else in the world, each contributing to the texture and tone of our wool. Our sheep are protected by UK welfare standards, and all British wool is non-mulesed.
